Biography
Tzumo Olah was born on 29 January 1980 in Budapest.
There are several musicians in his family, his father, Árpád Oláh is a jazz drummer.
The age of seven he started to studies classical piano with Livia Kelemen in Budapest, after that he continues classical music studies at the Weiner Leó Conservatory.
In 1996 at age of 16 started jazz studies at Erkel Ferenc Jazz School, at the age
of 18, he won first prize at Bela Bartok Hungarian Radio (Füsti Gábor Balogh) jazz piano competition.
The grand prize was a five-week summer course at Berklee College of Music in Boston.
In 2001 he won the main prize at the “Jazz an der Donau” competition in Germany, as well as the best soloist prize.
In September 2001, at the “Jazz Hoeilaart Intern’l Contest” in Belgium, his trio won all the main prizes, for the first time in the history of the competition: the best trio and the most original performance of the compulsory piece prizes, and the best European soloist prize.
At the age of 21, he was awarded a full scholarship to Berklee College of Music in Boston, and started to studies with Joanne Brackeen and Hal Crook.
From Berklee, he got accepted in 2003 to the most prestigious jazz institute master program, at the Thelonious Monk Jazz Institute, now is Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz, mentoring Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter , Ron Carter, and Terence Blanchard at USC in Los Angeles.

With the 2 year program, performed with the band around the world, in 2003 until 2005 with jazz legends like Charlie Haden, Jack Dejohnette, Terry Lyne Carrington, Dianne Reeves, Terence Blanchard, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Kenny Garrett, Clark Terry and Jimmy Heath and many others.
In 2006, moved to New York where he worked with Ferenc Nemeth, Lionel Loueke, Eli Degibri, Massimo Biolcati, Arturo Stable until 2008.
In 2011, he was invited to teach at the Snétberger Music
Talent Center in Hungary – to teach 60 Roma young people a year to develop their musical talents.
In 2017 released “Promise” album with Jure Pukl , Melissa Aldana, Kyle Poole and Josh Ginsburg Soso Lakatos on Hunnia Records.
Tzumo as a song writer – producer, released SolatiMusic “ Debut” album in 2016, with Kriszta Pocsai,Tom Heilig,Toni Snétberger. The band first big premiere in 2018 at the Hungarian Television M2 Petőfi TV Jazz Akusztik show was a great success.
“ Tell Me “ song by Tzumo released on 2019 ‘Soul Togetherness” album on Expansion Record in England.
In 2019, Ferenc Nemeth drummer invited him to play on “Freedom” album with Greg Tardy, the album was included in the „Grammy Award” nominations committee, and got the Independent Music Award.
In 2025, „Gypsy Dreams” album was released with original compositions, featuring Grammy Award winning musicians, such as Chris Potter, Dayna Stephens, Ricardo Fernandez del Moral.
The material on Gypsy Dreams, reveals a complex and exciting musical world,
building on the Roma sound with African-American, flamenco and oriental influences, but dressed in the guise of jazz.

Oláh Tzumó Árpád 1980. január 29-én,
Budapesten született. Családjában több zenész is van,
édesapja, idősebb Oláh Árpád dobos.
Eleinte Tzumo is dobos szeretett volna lenni, de
végül a zongora mellett döntött.
Az Erkel Ferenc Zeneiskolában Tollasiné Kelemen Líviánál kezdte a tanulmányait, majd azt követően a Weiner Leó Konzervatóriumban folytatta klasszikus zenei tanulmányait.
1996-ban megszakította, és jazzt kezdett tanulni Márkus Tibor felügyelete alatt az Erkel Ferenc Zeneiskolában.
18 éves korában megnyerte a Magyar Rádió Füsti Balogh Gábor zongora tehetségkutató versenyét. Ennek fődíja egy öt hetes nyári kurzus volt a Berklee College of Music-on Bostonban.
Ezt a díjat a Berklee magyar származású professzora, Gárdonyi László szerezte a verseny nyertesének.
2001 nyarán Németországban megnyerte a Jazz an der Donau verseny fődíját, valamint megkapta a legjobb szólistának járó díjat.
2001 szeptemberében a Belgiumban Jazz Hoeilaart
Intern’l Contest versenyen a triójával a verseny történetében először az összes fődíjat megnyerte: a legjobb triónak és a kötelező darab leginvenciózusabb előadásáért járó díjakat, illetve megkapta a legjobb európai szólistának járó díjat is.
2001 végén teljes ösztöndíjat kapott a Berklee College of Music-ra, és két évig tanult Bostonban. Tanára volt – többek között – Joanne Brackeen és Hal Crook.
2003-ban felvételt nyert a Los Angelesi USC egyetemere az Egyesült Államok legrangosabb jazz mester tanszakára, a (Thelonious Monk -ra ) mára már Herbie Hancock néven megy tovább,ahol Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter,Terence Blanchard, Ron Carter voltak a tanárai a Mester Diploma szakon.
2003-2005-ig koncert körutakon szerte a világon szerepelt hires tanári karral, valamint világsztárok vendégeközreműködésével mint Kenny Garrett, Dede Bridgewater, Lionel Loueke, Charlie Haden, Jack Dejohnette ,Terry Lyne Carrington, Dianne
Reeves,Terence, Blanchard ,Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Clark Terry,Jimmy Heath.
2005-2006-ban két lemezt készített a Hunna Records kiadónál az Improvizációk és Tzumo Electronic Dreams formációval.
2016-ban megalakította a SolatiMusic nevű zenekart,
a zenekar első nagy bemutatója 2018-ban a Magyar Televízió M2 Petőfi TV Jazz Akusztik műsorban szerepelt nagy sikerrel, majd teltházas lemezbemutató koncertet adtak Snétberger Ferenc közreműködésével a Müpa színház termében.
‘Tell Me’cimü dal megjelent a 2019- es “Soul Togetherness” válogatás lemezem az Expansion Anglol kiadónál.
2016-ban megjelent a Hungarian Folk Songs zonogra szóló lemeze a Hunnia Lemez kiadónál.
2017-ben megjelent a Promise c. lemeze nemzetközi vendégművészekkel a Hunnia Records kiadónál.
2019- Szerzői kiadásban megjelent bakelit formátumban a SolaiMusic Debut album.
2019-ben Németh Ferenc ’’Freedom” címmel Feat. Gregpory Tardy – Tzumo,az album 2020-ban bekerült a ”Grammy Award” kuratórium jelölési bizottságba.
Dijak:
2002-ben megkapta a Magyar Rádió E-MerTon díját, a Sláger Rádió pedig az „Év fiatal
jazztehetségei”-nek járó díjat adományozta neki.
2003-ban beválasztották az 50 legsikeresebb magyar fiatal közé.
2004-ben „My time” című lemeze , megkapta a Gramofon-díjat.
2010 Artisjus – díj Tzumo Árpád – billentyűs hangszerek művész.
2016-ban A jazz.hu szakmai szavazásán elnyerte az “Év
zongoristája díjat..
2018-ban A SolatiMusic formáció a jazz.hu szakmai szavazásán elnyerte az “Év zenekara” díjat.

Friss új podcast műsorral jelentkezem, ha tehetem akkor hetenként, de most nem a zongora mellett, hanem a youtube-on és a spotify-on egy laza beszélgetős műsorral, Tzumopodcast néven!
Az első műsor két részből áll, a volt tanárom a világhírű jazz-zongorista Herbie Hancock a Nemzetközi Jazz nap létrehozója, és ez apropóból készült az első műsor, aminek Szakcsi Jr. Lakatos Béla , Friedrich Károly és Pallai Péter volt a vendége.
A műsor politikamentes, elsősorban a jazz születése az amerikai kultúrtörténetéről , egy vidám igazi jazzes laza beszélgetés lett.
